The big house is situated on the outskirts of the village of Aurigo. The village is located below the highest mountain in the valley, the Montegrande, and the Guardiabella mountain, known for its beautiful views. For decades there used to be a good and well-known trattoria in the house, hence the somewhat unusual room layout.
The former actual rooms of the old trattoria are on the ground floor: the large kitchen, the dining room, the room in which cards were played, the warehouse, a total of 4 rooms plus an outside toilet. The host family lived on the first floor. There are 5 rooms including a second kitchen. On the first floor you will find two balconies with very nice view over the valley.
There is enough space under the roof to set up a room or possibly build a roof terrace.
The house has been uninhabited for several years as the family built a new house and moved. There are lots of interesting details as antique tile floors, marble sinks and even more which are in a very good condition.
The house also has 4 very large cellars, so-called cantinas, where supplies, tools and, above all, wine used to be stored. The big wooden barrels are all of them still there. The cantines are dry and partly built with beautiful vaulted ceilings made of natural stone. They could be converted into a separate apartment.
In front of the house you will find a pretty vine-covered terrace, which was used to eat outside in the summertime.
The house is in need of renovation, but has great potential. The building structure is in good condition and the location is very interesting.
An olive grove can also be purchased by anyone who wants to produce own olive oil.
The house has electricity, water and sewage. A gas line can be laid without any problems, the gas connection is already next to the house.
There is only one toilet, the bathrooms have to be built in.
Some floors are laid with high quality antique tiles.
The roof is not insulated and needs to be replaced, the wooden structure is in good condition.
There is no monument protection as far as the interior construction is concerned. The changes to the facade must be approved.
The town of Aurigo is situated in the upper part of the so-called “Vale Grande”, the “Great Valley”. It is about 30 minutes by car to Imperia and the beaches, and a large part of the route is on a well-developed expressway.
Aurigo looks back on a very old and eventful history. The place was mentioned in documents as early as the 12th century, played an important strategic role in several wars, had a castle in which a noble family lived. To this day there is an ancient palazzo with a park in the center of the village, in which a marquis lives.
From Aurigo you can go on wonderful hikes, several well signposted hiking trails lead directly in front of the door via Colle San Bartolomeo to Montegrande and on to Carpasio and Triora.
There are two grocery stores in Aurigo, a butcher and the post office. A little outside of the village there is a trattoria with cult status "Il Boscetto". In the summer months, beautiful village festivals with music and dance are celebrated on the piazza.
Below Aurigo the small town of Borgomaro is situated, a small Ligurian summer dream of medieval origin full of ancient houses that stand in a labyrinth of alleys and paths. Everything is still very authentic and well preserved, it is not an “open-air museum”.
The mountain stream forms some romantic pools here. In summer you can swim in it and it is a welcome alternative to the beaches. There are several small shops, a pharmacy, a post office, a bar and a few restaurants. Recently even the very nice upper class hotel “Relais Maro” has opened.
