Just 6 km north of Imperia in the valley of Prino (Valprino) the town of Dolcedo is located. The place consists of the main town Dolcedo (Dolcedo piazza) and several independent small villages in the hills (like Costa Carnara, Lecchiore, Isolalunga, Bellissimi, Castelazzo, Ripalta ...). The valley is called Conca d'Oro and is completely covered with terraces of olive cultivation. Chestnut and oak forests are distending over the extended olive groves up to the mountain pastures of the chine where the Monte Faudo represents the highest peak with 1149 meters. The old transport network of mule roads called Mulatiera is still partially preserved and designated for hiking.
The picturesque appearance of the village is dominated by the ancient Loggia del Comune and two remarkable churches. Today still medieval, the village looks with its winding streets, archways, Caruggi and the connected groups of houses like a labyrinth which is winding up the slopes. The symbol of the village, almost an icon of Liguria, the Maltese bridge from the year 1292, "il ponte grande", spans the deep-set river Prino.
In the village there are many good shops: there is a pharmacy, bakery, butcher, and several grocery stores. In the center there are nice bars and many restaurants, from a simple pizzeria to the high class restaurant like Casa della Roca in Ripalta. On the Piazza there is a bank with an ATM.
In summer time in Dolcedo regularly antique and farmers' markets, village festivals and classical concerts take place.
